Dear Powell Street Festival Supporters,

Thank you for your continued support of the Powell Street Festival Society. Despite the challenge of a last minute shift from Oppenheimer Park, this year’s Powell Street Festival was an overwhelming success! Georgia Straight named us as the “Best last-minute festival location change,” and noted that we “demonstrated true Japanese and Canadian respect, graciousness, and efficiency.”

We were able to pull off the 38th Powell Street Festival thanks to an outpouring of community support and goodwill from artists, community partners, vendors and businesses, along with some hard work by our staff and volunteers. PSFS Staff and Board were extra proud that we were able to fully demonstrate our revised mission of “cultivating Japanese Canadian arts and culture to connect communities.” More than ever, the Powell Street Festival showed the strong connection between Japanese Canadian arts and culture to an umbrella of Vancouver communities. Read the 2014 Festival Snapshot (PDF, 1.3MB)

Whether you supported us financially, through volunteer hours, or helped spread the word, we thank you for being a member of our community. It means a lot to us that we can count on individuals such as yourself to help keep us relevant, vibrant and community-minded.

If you would like to help us continue to cultivate Japanese Canadian arts and culture to connect communities, we ask that you consider making a donation. Your donation will assist in defraying costs incurred from our 2014 move and bring in exciting artists for next year’s programming. A new performance by Calgary International Fringe Festival’s ‘Best of Festival’ theatre and dance artist Mark Kunji Ikeda, and a series of new commissions by the Vancouver Taiko Society, are just some of the works that will be presented at the 2015 Powell Street Festival.

Your contribution will help ensure the Powell Street Festival continues to be Vancouver’s free, dynamic, accessible Japanese Canadian arts and cultural celebration in the city’s historic Japanese Canadian neighbourhood! We thank you for your donation and look forward to celebrating 40 years with you next year.
