Hogan’s Alley Working Group is a new community-based organization created to advocate, promote, and honour the legacy of the only Black community Vancouver has ever had. HA was destroyed in 1972 when the city decided to build the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts. Now that the City of Vancouver has decided to tear down the viaducts, the community is organizing to recreate what was lost. They hope to rebuild HA in all of its glory. Hogan’s Alley was a diverse community that housed not only Black people but First Nations, Chinese, and other radicalized residents. Members of Hogan’s Alley will be available to answer any questions which the public has during the Powell Street Festival.
