Members’ Bios

Miko Hoffman coordinated the Powell Street Festival in 2000/2001 and has been the General Manager for the Society since 2003. She has been involved in the local non-profit arts community for more than 13 years in curatorial, programming and volunteering capacities, and writes and performs in various musical projects.

Peter Li begun his involvement with the Powell Street Festival in 2005. He immediately fell in love with the vibrant and colourful theme of the festival and decided that he wanted to be part of the team that supports the festival operation and its ongoing evolution. Peter also participates in a local traditional cultural dance academy and he hopes to expand his repertoire and invite more people to see his dance school’s performance.

Angus MacLean has had a relatively short history with the Powell Street Festival, having been introduced to the Festival as a volunteer in 2001. The years since have seen him progress to Secretary, Director and Festival Security Coordinator.  On a personal level, Angus enjoys creating and assembling intricate scale replicas of early flying machines, then smashing them.

John Yamazaki has been a part of the Powell Street Festival for as long as he can remember (which is approx. 7 years now). He is currently a co-owner of two furniture stores and is hoping for a third in the near future. One of his goals is to finally learn the Japanese language and be able to communicate with his grandmother fluently.
